Dr. Renae D. Mayes is an associate professor in the Counseling Program at the University of Arizona. She is a national certified counselor and a licensed school counselor in the state of Indiana. Her research focuses on the intersection of gifted education and special education for students of color in urban environments. Additionally, Mayes focuses on comprehensive school counseling models and interventions that support the holistic development and success of historically underserved student populations. Dr. Mayes has been active in the Muncie community through her roles as board members for Inspire Academy, Urban Light Community Church, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Delaware County. She also is a co-leader for Reconciliation Achieved through Community Engagement, a member of the Civilian Review Committee of the Muncie Human Rights Commission, and has co-led two facing projects: Facing Racism and Facing LGBTQ Pride. She was recently received the NAACP Muncie Chapter President's Award for her involvement in the greater Muncie community.
